Discovering a foreign environment as a photographer, capturing the impressions and experiences in pictures, is always fascinating and challenging. [...] Every city is a complex structure of architecture, history, art, consumption, infrastructure, the extraordinary and the everyday that could be depicted. But for me, encountering a city means, above all, encountering its inhabitants. And so I looked for people in Innsbruck, ran into them and was taken in by them. Some of these encounters were chance acquaintances, others my interest in certain facets of Innsbruck led me to them. My work does not claim to be complete, the people I have portrayed are not an empirical cross-section of all residents, but each of them is a piece of my subjective Innsbruck.

As part of the 50th anniversary of the town twinning with Freiburg, there was a cultural exchange through photographers. The idea was to send "young" photographers to the city partners for 8 weeks, the selection was made by the respective cultural offices. In this context, Claudia Fritz from Innsbruck organised an exhibition about Freiburg in Freiburg in 2013 and photographer Nicolas Trusch from Freiburg organised the exhibition "Encounters" about Innsbruck in Innsbruck in 2015.
