You think that everything there is to know about Andreas Hofer and the year 1809 has already been said and written? Far from it!
It was only in 2019 that previously unknown correspondence from 1809 was discovered in our city archives, providing first-hand insights into the relationship between Andreas Hofer in his capacity as commander-in-chief in Tyrol and the city of Innsbruck. This source discovery enriches both the city's history and our image of the Sandwirt, who - as the exhibition title suggests - could sometimes burst his collar.
Using selected exhibits, including some of the original letters discovered, the exhibition shed light on the complex and often conflict-laden relationship between Andreas Hofer and the Innsbruck city fathers.
