A lot has happened in the culture of remembrance in Tyrol over the past 15 years or so.
in 2010, the broad debate about assaults and violence in residential care centres began. in 2011, the discussion about the role of so-called "folk culture" in the Nazi era ignited. in 2013, the state established a funding focus on the culture of remembrance, and the first honours were revoked by Innsbruck's Municipal council. Since then, a large number of projects have been realised on various initiatives - on the history of municipalities as well as institutions and associations, on general questions of cultural policy or, for example, desertion in the Nazi Gau.
It was not uncommon for these projects to cross national borders and involve Vorarlberg and South Tyrol. The focus was undoubtedly on National Socialism and its continuities and successors, but other forgotten histories are also increasingly coming to the fore.
The extent to which this will permanently change the Tyrolean culture of remembrance is perhaps still difficult to assess. But in any case, it is time for an "interim report". This is how the idea for this exhibition came about, which was developed together with history students in a seminar on the regional culture of remembrance in Tyrol (summer semester 2024). It can also be used as a kind of guide to completed, ongoing or open projects.
